Sway Control Stabilizes the Load For Smooth Operation

Our solutions for reducing sway movements on cranes enhance crane safety and efficiency by minimizing both linear and rotational oscillations of the grapple or hook, with or without a load. The system dynamically compensates for unwanted sway during crane movement, ensuring stable and precise load handling.



Classic sway control


We offer traditional sway control using an open-loop method, in which the system attenuates sway of the hook or grapple caused by acceleration and deceleration without feedback from any sensors.



Active sway control


Our closed-loop control system for active sway suppression counteracts swaying motions caused by the crane's accelerating or decelerating movements. However, the system also compensates for swaying motions caused by external factors such as wind, lifting operations, etc. and thus provides an additional layer of safety and efficiency during crane operation.



Suppression of rotational movements


Our TorsionKiller rotation damping method suppresses unwanted rotational and pendulum movement, provided the crane is equipped with mechanisms for rotating the grab or hook. 


To actively suppress vibrations and rotational movements, we use a camera mounted on the trolley that continuously and precisely monitors the alignment of the grab or hook. Our AI systems process the camera data in real time to calculate precise corrective movements, transmit them to the crane, and stabilize the load throughout the entire lifting process. 



"Prevention" or "Mitigation" mode


Our system operates in either of two modes:



  • Sway prevention: The system automatically suppresses all sway movements, including rotary pendulum movements, while the crane is moving. As a result, the load remains stable throughout the operation.
  • Sway mitigation: The system quickly dampens any existing pendulum movements - both linear and rotary - and stops them, so that a safe and accurate load placement is possible.


By reducing the swaying motion of grapple, hook and load, our solution improves safety and positioning accuracy, increases the crane’s working speed and reduces the operator’s work load.


Our Sway Control works best in conjunction with our
Shortcuts solution: When the system drives the load directly to the target, it knows exactly when to start with counter-movements, so that the load arrives at the target without any oscillation.

If the system detects an impending collision between the grapple or hook and any object in the crane's working area, it creates an alert on the HMI and stops the crane. When used with partial or full autonomy, the system will circumvent the obstacle.
